Avalanche frontiers in dissipative abelian sandpile model as off-critical SLE(2)

Avalanche frontiers in Abelian Sandpile Model (ASM) are random simple curves whose continuum limit is known to be a Schramm-Loewner Evolution (SLE) with diffusivity parameter κ=2\kappa = 2. In this paper we consider the dissipative ASM and study the statistics of the avalanche and wave frontiers for various rates of dissipation. We examine the scaling behavior of a number of functions such as the correlation length, the exponent of distribution function of loop lengths and gyration radius defined for waves and avalanches. We find that they do scale with the rate of dissipation. Two significant length scales are observed. For length scales much smaller than the correlation length, these curves show properties close to the critical curves and the corresponding diffusivity parameter is nearly the same as the critical limit. We interpret this as the ultra violet (UV) limit where κ=2\kappa = 2 corresponding to c=2c=-2. For length scales much larger than the correlation length we find that the avalanche frontiers tend to Self-Avoiding Walk, the corresponding driving function is proportional to the Brownian motion with the diffusion parameter κ=8/3\kappa =8/3 corresponding to a field theory with c=0c = 0. This is the infra red (IR) limit. Correspondingly the central charge decreases from the IR to the UV point.Comment: 11 Pages, 6 Figure

This study related to preparation of UV curable epoxy nanoclay nanocomposite and investigation on mechanical and thermal properties of their thin films. For achieving this UV-curable epoxy dimethacrylate was synthesized by epoxy resin (EPIKOTE 828), methacrylic acid, triphenylphosphine (PPh3) as catalyst and para-methoxy phenol (PMP) as inhibitor at 80 ºC for 2 hours (yield 99%). Formulation of UV curable resin was achieved by 5% w/w benzophenone and N, N dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate. The resin was reinforced by using 1-5% w/w modified nanoclay in total formulation. Synthesized resin was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and thermal behaviors of nanocomposites were evaluated by TGA and DSC analysis. INTRODUCTION: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and degenerative neurological disease characterized by loss of myelin sheath of some neurons in brain and spinal cord. It is associated with high economic burden due to premature deaths and high occurrence of disabilities. The aim of the current study was to determine cost effectiveness of two major products of interferon 1a in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. METHOD AND MATERIALS: Altogether, 140 patients who have consumed Avonex and CinnoVex in Relapsing Remitting MS for at least two years were randomly selected (70 patients in each group). Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) was assessed using the adopted MSQoL-54 instrument. Costs were measured and valued from Ministry of Health and Medical Education (MOHME) perspective. Two-way sensitivity analysis was used to check robustness of the results. RESULTS: Patients in CinnoVex group reported significantly higher scores in both physical (69.5 vs. 50.9, P<0.001) and mental (63.3 vs. 56.6, P=0.03) aspects of HRQoL than Avonex group. On the other hand, annual cost of CinnoVex and Avonex were 2410 US and 4515US per patient, respectively (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The results showed that CinnoVex was dominant option over the study period. It is suggested that results of the current study should be considered in allocating resources to MS treatments in Iran. Of course, our findings should be interpreted with caution duo to short term horizon and lack of HRQoL scores at baseline (before the intervention)

Actinomycosis may be presented in unusual organs: A report of two cases

Actinomycosis is a chronic granulomatous suppurative disease characterized by direct extension to the contagious tissue with the formation of multiple drainage sinus tracts through which tiny colonies of organisms called sulfur granules are discharged. Here, we report 2 cases of actinomycosis from Iran. One of them had actinomycosis on the hand and the other on the foot. Samples of tissue biopsy showed sulfur granules associated with colonies of actinomyces, thus confirming the diagnosis in both cases. The response to curettage and penicillin therapy was satisfactory in our patients. The chronic and indolent course of actinomycosis resembles tuberculosis, fungal infection and malignancy. So, increasing awareness among the clinicians and clinical microbiologists will help in the early diagnosis of the disease and in the initiation of early and proper treatment

Investigation of Fossil Fuel and Liquid Biofuel Blend Properties Using Artificial Neural Network

Gasoline fuel is the baseline fuel in this research, to which bioethanol, biodiesel and diesel are additives. The fuel blends were prepared based on different volumes and following which, ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) test methods analysed some of the important properties of the blends, such as: density, dynamic viscosity, kinematic viscosity and water and sediment. Experimental data were analysed by means of Matlab software. The results obtained from artificial neural network analysis of the data showed that the network with feed forward back propagation of the Levenberg-Marquardt train LM function with 10 neurons in the hidden layer was the best for predicting the parameters, including: Water and sediment (W), dynamic viscosity (DV), kinematic viscosity (KV) and density (De). The experimental data had a good correlation with ANN-predicted values according to 0.96448 for regression
